After school I first went studying to become a physiotherapist. I didn’t like it and changed to study maths at UL. I love going to the gym and play Gaelic football with our local Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others team.

How I Use Maths In My Job:
I use statistics every day. Lots of these statistics tools also need probability, algebra, geometry and measurement. I work with lots of companies including Johnson & Johnson helping them to understand more about how to improve how contact lenses are made and Sanofi to understand properties of their medicines better. I also work a lot with sports scientists to understand how to row better, what makes a good golfer, and why people who run get injured.
-
My Work:
I work with lots of different scientists and companies, helping them to use their data to understand more about their products, medicines or human behaviour.
-
My Typical Day:
I get up and get everyone (me, daughters, cats) ready for the day. I drop the girls to school and then am off to work. I spend the day teaching, preparing lectures, supervising students and other researchers helping them to do their work, or meeting with other scientists and companies to talk about our work. I also have to write lots of reports and papers and read other people’s work.
